    The Youth Activity Centers will be open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. during the Los Alamos Public Schools Winter Break.

    Monday — Luminarias or farolito bag
    Tuesday —Branch menorah
    Wednesday —Movies and munchies
    Thursday — T-paper tree (open 8 a.m.-6 p.m.)
    Friday — Coloring contest (open 8 a.m.-6 p.m.).

    All students in third through eighth grade are welcome to join, free of charge.

  • Fashion Maven: Tips on finding a suit that suits you

    Among many objects in a man’s closet, I believe that the suit is the most important. Suits are versatile and can make a lasting impressions.
    The only problem is, many of you guys out there have trouble finding suits. You have all sorts of issues: they’re ill fitting, uncomfortable, or just plain boring. I say a perfect suit is a must and can be easy to find as long as you have a few helpful pointers.
    To begin with, there are different suits for different occasions, so have a clear idea of what you need the suit for. Typically, an everyday suit for the office is best in navy or black.
    Upon arrival at the store, it’s always helpful to quickly walk around and get an idea of the different styles of suits the store offers.

  • Guests help propel ‘Tha Carter IV’

    In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested in New York City for criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana.
    After being delayed for three years, Wayne pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment on Riker’s Island.
    Upon release, after serving eight months, Wayne began work on “Tha Carter IV.”
    Released on Aug. 29, 2011, more than a million copies were sold in the United States in the first week.
    In November, “Tha Carter IV” was certified double platinum after selling two million copies in the U.S. alone.
    Wayne definitely brings his best with this album. All of his beats flow with his lyrics and there are no real dry points in his songs.

  • Students and parents broaden their horizons

    Home, sweet, home when associated with education, is what many kids these days know better than everyone else.
    With the growing popularity of home schooling, more kids are taking part in this alternative form of education.
    In fact, a recent study has shown that home schooling has more than doubled in the last 10 years.
    The U.S. Department of Education said that nearly two million students are being home schooled nationwide, which is a 74 percent jump since 1999.
    To add to the numbers, there are 9,000 registered home school families in New Mexico this year.
    But why such a rise? A few of the main reasons are that the parents don’t like the public school environment or that their children are bullied.

  • ‘A Christmas Carol’ helped kick off the season

    “A Christmas Carol” is just one of the many beloved Christmas tales performed this time of year.
    This time around, the New Mexico Dance Theater Performance Company told the story of Ebenezer through ballet.
    The non-verbal version of this old tale was one that will not soon be forgotten.
    According to dancer Alice Vaeirs, the dancers started preparing for this performance around the middle of August, leaving them with four months until the first show.
    Alicia Bowyer played the ghost of Christmas past. Bowyer’s parents said she danced eight hours a week, preparing for her performances.
    The story portrayed by NMDT-PC was the same as the classic tale, without changing the story line.

This year though, I have derived one for you that includes all of the key pieces of clothing that, by all means, should not be missing from your wardrobe.
