Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church and the House of Hope  (HOH) Women invite the community to a Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) pancake supper from 5:30-7 p.m. March 4 in Kelly Hall (3900 Trinity Drive). Donations for the dinner are $4 for children 10 and under, $8 for adults and $20 for a family. Tickets may be purchased at the door the night of the supper.

The event is also a fundraiser for the HOH and Trinity Builders mission teams for their 2014 annual house building trips to Cuidad Juárez, Mexico.

Together, the two teams have built 12 homes for impoverished families in the poorest section of that city, over the past 9 years.

The menu will include ham, pancakes, flavored syrups, eggs cooked to order, fruit and orange juice.

  • Does the Bible cover romantic love?

“OK — so it’s Valentine’s Day. I guess I need to know if the Bible talks about romantic love!” — Maria

There are a few “love stories”: Adam was pretty taken with Eve (although that cannot be too surprising since he had seen only animals prior to meeting her; Gen. 2:18-23).

Isaac loved Rebekah; Jacob loved Rachel (Gen. 24:67; 29:18) Ruth fell for Boaz and vice versa (even though there is no kissing or hugging that we find in the story; Ruth 1-4).

  • Church conference set for the weekend

Grace Vineyard Christian Fellowship is hosting a “Burning Ones” conference with Colter and Liz Phehm this weekend.
Colt Prehm, a professional artist from Santa Fe, and his wife Elizabeth are the founders of Prehm Ministries. Committing their lives to the purposes of God in their early 20s, the Phehm began a continuous journey of living in the reality of the supernatural, fueled by the Holy Spirit.
At their equipping and impartation services, healing crusades and various other meetings; they are expectant that the Holy Spirit will confirm the word of the Lord in miracles, signs and wonders!
Besides being called into a healing and prophetic ministry, they are compelled by their desire to see people come to know Christ and for unity to be re-established among churches and all those who call on the name of the Lord.
The public is invited to attend. There will be no registration fee. Call the church for time of event.
Grace Vineyard is located at 1183 Diamond Drive, across from the high school. For information, call Pastor John Sullivan at 661-2658 or 412-2518.

  • Bible Answers: Ezekiel 18 represents individual responsibility

“I just read Ezekiel 18. Does it support the doctrine of eternal security?”—Katrina
The doctrine of “eternal security” holds that once an individual becomes a Christian (i.e., is accepted by God through Christ), that individual can never “lose” her salvation.
This doctrine has its roots in numerous texts (John 1:12; 3:5-7; Rom. 8:15-17; II Cor. 5:17ff; Eph. 1:11-14; 2:5-7; Phil. 1:6; Col. 2:10-15; I Pet. 1:3-5; passim).
As can be seen from this list, the doctrine is essentially a New Testament teaching. Christian biblical scholars sometimes point to ancient Hebrew themes (such as the Covenant, the Chosen People, Exodus and the Promised Land, et al.) that they suggest are consistent with “eternal security.”
The text at hand is fascinating. Ezekiel 18 presents one of the earliest and most clear statements regarding individual responsibility before God. Theretofore, responsibility for sin and repentance was born by the community, the tribe and clan and family. In this passage, the “word of the Lord” (18:1) clearly states that God will deal with both a father and his son as individuals for their faith and their conduct.
Concomitantly, there is grace: the wicked man who turns from his sin and lives righteously will find life (18:21-22, 27-28).
