  • Defining the Orthodox Christian Church

What is the Orthodox Christian Church? — George P.

Multitudes of names for many differing Christian groups is a relatively recent development within Christianity. The ancient church was one community and thus needed one name — Christian. That one group exists today. The ancient church was founded by Christ and His Apostles and was established on Pentecost by the Holy Spirit. The ancient Christians received a lifestyle from Christ, not merely a new moral code; they believed particular things about God and their relationship with Him.

  • Bible Answers: Talking about the Bible and the environment

“There seem to be different ideas about what the Bible teaches concerning the environment. What do you think?” — Tim

There are indeed different ideas. Some folks believe that the Earth was given to humans to use as they wish with little regard for conservation or long-term sustainability. They believe that natural resources should be fully utilized, a conviction that has largely driven capitalistic production and trade. This belief, insofar as it looks to the Bible for justification, holds that creation was made for man (Gen. 1 and 2, loosely) and contends that the Earth will one day be destroyed (II Pet. 3:10-12) — there is, therefore, no impediment to expending it.

  • Blessing of the Animals slated for Oct. 1

The community of St. Dimitri of Rostov Orthodox Church will host a Blessing of the Animals at 11 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Posse Lodge. All pets and animals are welcome. Horses from the nearby stables can be walked over to be blessed. Food will be provided.
In Ancient Christian Orthodoxy, life is understood as a movement of love between the persons of the Holy Trinity. The whole cosmos participated in this liturgy of love but fell away from it in the fall. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, restores humanity to that liturgy.

  • Get to know your neighbors at annual picnic

What a summer. It was too dry, then too wet and there were no Fourth of July fireworks in White Rock. It seems like the fire hollowed out the middle of summer, schedules were thrown off and everyone felt a little disconnected from each other.
What we need is a good party. We need to get together for a fun afternoon, bring the kids and grandkids, enjoy the beautiful fall weather, the gift of community and the treasure of friends and family.
We should have no agenda and no program, just free popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, ice cream, balloons and more.
We could have giant bounce houses, the Orbitron, fire trucks, police cars and other cool cars. The Hill Stompers band could show up and perform. The afternoon could conclude with free barbecue and music.
