  • Bible Answers: What is God's judgment for the wicked?

“Does God have it in for wicked people? Does He want to damn them to hell for all the bad they have done?”—Brian
The Bible makes it clear God is not happy about “wickedness.” He issued specific commands to keep it in check (Ex. 20:1ff). The writer of Proverbs told his readers what God abhors (Prov. 6:16-19).
There were some pretty severe judgments upon wickedness in the Old Testament (e.g., Gen. 19; Josh. 7)
The New Testament provides several lists of serious infractions (I Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:19-21; Col. 3:5-9).
This sort of behavior is clearly not what God intended for His highest creatures. He “hoped” for better, in a manner of speaking.
But hear two other pertinent thoughts:
First, God doesn’t relish the destruction of the “wicked people.”
The Book says as much (Ezek. 18:23, 32). God has gone to unimaginable lengths to reach all people (the “world” of Jn. 3:16) in our brokenness, to rescue us from an eternity apart from Him (Rom. 1:17; 5:6-10; Eph. 2:4-10; I Tim. 2:4). He does not want any to perish (II Pet. 3:9).
Indeed, Jesus did not come to condemn the world, rather, He came so that the world might be saved (Jn. 3:17-21).

  • Church of Christ to host women's mini-conference

“Filled with God’s Joy” is the theme for the second annual county-wide mini-conference, “Women-to-Women Brunch and More.”
The free mini-conference, which seeks to connect Los Alamos women with each other and with God, will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 29, at the Los Alamos Church of Christ building, 2323 Diamond Drive.
The morning of Christian fellowship, mutual encouragement and spiritual strengthening is open to all women of the community. Brunch will be served, and complimentary babysitting will be available.
The church began sponsoring the county-wide conference in the spring of 2013 with the theme, “Wrapped in God’s Love.” Response was enthusiastic, prompting women of the congregation to plan another such event and extend it by an hour beyond last year’s time.
Plans are to work through the fruit of the Spirit, as listed in the Apostle Paul’s biblical letter to the Galatians, chapter 5, verses 22 and 23.
“That gets us through nine years of conferences,” said Rebecca Wilhoit, chairperson of this year’s event. “By then, we will figure out another theme.”

  • Ministry to open store to help youth

A new ministry has been formed by the First United Methodist Church youth ministry. Aaron’s Kids Closet, a free store, opens on March 22.

The ministry is asking the community for assistance in getting the word out as a resource for the young people. Donations of gently used items are requested.
There are certain items that are not sanitary to reuse, such as under-garments, therefore financial contribution would be accepted so we can provide these items.

Collections for donations are ongoing until the opening of the store from 1-4 p.m. March 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Los Alamos.

    Community worship day is Sunday

A community-wide worship service is going to be held at the Duane W. Smith Auditorium from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
The service is being sponsored by the following Los Alamos congregations and ministries: Celebrate Recovery, Christian Church, Church of Christ, Grace Vineyard, New Beginnings Assembly of God Church, La Vista Church of the Nazarene Church, New Life New Mexico, Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, White Rock Presbyterian Church and White Rock Baptist Church.
It is the belief of these churches and ministries that there is only one Church in Los Alamos, in spite of the various names and distinctive doctrines and that the things that unite us far out way the things that divide us.
The public is invited to join in this time of united worship.

  • TOH to have Mardi Gras pancake supper

Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church and the House of Hope  (HOH) Women invite the community to a Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) pancake supper from 5:30-7 p.m. March 4 in Kelly Hall (3900 Trinity Drive). Donations for the dinner are $4 for children 10 and under, $8 for adults and $20 for a family. Tickets may be purchased at the door the night of the supper.

The event is also a fundraiser for the HOH and Trinity Builders mission teams for their 2014 annual house building trips to Cuidad Juárez, Mexico.

Together, the two teams have built 12 homes for impoverished families in the poorest section of that city, over the past 9 years.

The menu will include ham, pancakes, flavored syrups, eggs cooked to order, fruit and orange juice.
