    Casey Daniel Smith Schroeder of Los Alamos, N.M. and Jennifer Marjorie Heguy of Los Banos, Calif. were united in marriage on May 29, 2010. The ceremony, presided over by Timothy Hammerich, and reception were celebrated at Delta Farms in Los Banos, Calif.
    Jennifer is the Daughter of Peter and JoAnn Heguy of Los Banos, Calif. and Casey is the son of Norman C. Schroeder and Barbara F. Smith of Los Alamos, N.M.

    Brad Burk’s Hot Rocks Java Café was featured in a book titled, “Breakfast New Mexico Style,” by Valerie Nye and Kathy Barco. The book is a dining guide to “more than 100 favorite, fancy, funky and family friendly restaurants.”

    Loretta Rivera, RT (R)(M), is Los Alamos Medical Center’s third Employee of the Quarter for 2010. Chief Executive Officer Wally Vette recently recognized Rivera, an employee of LAMC’s Imaging Department since May 1999, at a special ceremony.

  • Wedding: Lucero-Velasco

    Edmundo and Dora Lucero of Santa Fe, N.M., are pleased to announce the wedding of their youngest daughter, Anita to Robert Velasco, son of Rudy and Callie Velasco of Los Alamos, N.M.
    The bride is a 1986 graduate of Santa Fe High School. She received her RN license from New Mexico State University then pursued her master’s degree at The University of New Mexico as an acute care nurse practitioner. She is currently employed as a hospitalist with Internal Medicine at UNM Hospital.

    Ken and Valerie Shelley are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter Desta Bernice Shelley, to David Allen Parkinson, son of Scott and Julie Parkinson of White Rock, N.M.
    Desta is a 2008 graduate of Los Alamos High School.  She is currently a junior in the nursing program at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  Desta was a nursing intern at the Children’s Clinic at Los Alamos Medical Center last summer.

    Army Spec. Nathan A. Theye graduated from the Multiple Launch Rocket System Operations/Fire Direction Specialist Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
    The course is designed to train the students on how to record and transmit firing data, operate fire direction systems and multiple launch rocket system communication equipment.

  • Actor Tony Curtis dies at age 85

    LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tony Curtis molded himself from a 1950s movie heartthrob to a respected actor, showing a determined streak that served him well with such films as "Sweet Smell of Success," ''The Defiant Ones" and "Some Like It Hot."

    The Oscar-nominated actor died about 9:25 p.m. PDT Wednesday at his Henderson, Nev., home of a cardiac arrest, Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy said Thursday.
