    Adam Nekimken, a resident of Los Alamos has earned placement on the Gonzaga University president’s list for fall semester 2011. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average to be listed.

    Cody Stewart of Los Alamos has been honored at Lipscomb University for academic achievement during the fall 2011 semester. Stewart, a Ravenwood High School graduate and pre-nursing major, has been placed on the provost’s list. Lipscomb University is located in Nashville, Tenn.

  • Engagement: Rodriguez-Jones

    Mr. and Mrs. Terry and Diana Burge of Arroyo Seco announce the engagement of their daughter, Shannan Nicole Rodriguez to Michael Adam Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Joyce Brenner-Jones of Willow Springs, N.C.
    The future bride graduated from the Los Alamos High School class of 1999. She was nurtured in life  by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Salvador and Bertha Rodriguez of White Rock and Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Maureen Roybal of Rio Rancho; La Vista Church of the Nazarene, White Rock; and Truth Ministries Calvary Chapel, Arroyo Seco/ Espanola.
    The future groom was a graduate of the class of 1998 from William Tennent High School in Warminster, Pa. The two met and became friends at Calvary Chapel of Cary, N.C.

  • Engagement: Stokes-Benge

    Kyle and Diana Stokes of Los Alamos are pleased to announce  the engagement of their daughter Jessica Lindsey to James Colton Benge, son of Colin and Pam Benge of Lovington. Both are currently attending New Mexico State University. Jessica is majoring in hotel and restaurant management and James is majoring in industrial engineering. They are planning to be married June 9, 2012.

    Aubrie Powell of Los Alamos has been named to the 2011 fall semester dean’s list at Ohio Wesleyan University. To qualify for Dean’s List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes. Ohio Wesleyan University is located in Delaware, Ohio.

    Jenny Tumas of Los Alamos was among seven Clemson University students who attended the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States Biennial Conference held in Ottawa, Canada.

    Erin Dinehart, a junior from Los Alamos, is spending the spring semester studying abroad at the University of Dallas’ 12-acre Eugene Constantin Campus just outside Rome, Italy.
    Since 1970, University of Dallas students have had the opportunity — usually in their sophomore years — to spend a semester in The Eternal City studying, traveling and experiencing the art, architecture, literature, philosophy and deeds that form the basis of Western civilization.

    Nicole Silks of Los Alamos has been placed on the Gettysburg College Dean’s Commendation List for outstanding academic achievement in the fall 2011.

  • Wedding: Whitehurst-Watson

    William and Elaine Watson of Los Alamos, are happy to announce the wedding of their son David Watson to Lindsay Whitehurst daughter of John and Susan Whitehurst of Lake Villa, Ill.
    David and Lindsay were married on Oct. 22, 2011, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Best man was Clayton Painter and groomsmen were Christopher Watson, Christopher Brown and Ronald Edward Lovett. Maid of honor was Elizabeth Whitehurst and brides maids were Katherine Whitehurst, Kitty (Watson) Brown and Elizabeth Lovett.
    David is a 1999 Los Alamos High School graduate and a 2006 graduate of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Lindsay is a 2001 graduate of Antioch Community High School in Antioch, Ill. and a 2004 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

    The University of Dallas Department of Education has recognized Elise Dinehart, a senior from Los Alamos, with its 2012 Teller Award, an award established by alumni and faculty in honor of Professor Emeritus James D. Teller. The award is given each year to an outstanding student based upon scholastic achievement, leadership ability and potential as a teacher.
    “Elise exemplifies the qualities of scholarship, leadership and the intangible characteristics found in a great teacher,” said Education Professor and Department Chair Jerry Irons. “A model of strength, dedication, tenacity and tenderness, she will truly affect the future through her teaching.”

  • Engagement: Glesmann-Courtright

    John and Geniece Courtright of Los Alamos and Lloyd and Cathy Glesmann of Pappillion, Neb. announce the engagement of their children, Riley Courtright and Kate Glesmann. The couple plan to be married in Omaha, Neb. on July 6, 2012.
    Kate is a 2006 graduate of Papillion High School and 2010 graduate of the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She is a social worker for KVC Behavioral Healthcare in Omaha. Riley is a 2005 graduate of Los Alamos High School and recently received a master’s degree in sports management from Minnesota State University in Dec. 2011. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Unversity of Nebraska Lincoln in 2009. Riley currently works for the Alexandria (Minn.) Blizzard Hockey team.
