    Scores of World War II veterans fly in from around the country to Washington, D.C. on the 68th anniversary of D-Day, visiting the World War II Memorial to reflect on their time of service.

    Aubrie Powell of Los Alamos, has been named to the 2012 spring semester dean’s list at Ohio Wesleyan University.
    To qualify for Dean’s List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.

    Rod and Leilani Christensen of Los Alamos and Chi-Hung and Flora Szeto of Brooklyn, N.Y. are proud to annouce the engagement of their children Anna Christensen and Matthew Szeto. The couple plan to be married in Colorado Springs, Colo. on June 3.

    Aegis Capital Management, LLC announced the promotion of Denise M. Gonzales to operations manager. Gonzales, formerly an administrative assistant to Principal Bill Leslie, has been with the firm for 121⁄2 years and according to Leslie, “is integral to the technical, procedural and customer-relations aspects of our business.”
    Aegis has been doing business in Santa Fe since 1989 and is a fee-based Independent Registered Investment Advisory firm, which specializes in long-term investment strategies and portfolio management.

    Marine Corps Pvt. Daniel S. Smith, son of Donna S. Brewer-Hulton of Los Alamos and Kevin C. Smith of Goose Creek, S.C., recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
    Smith and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Smith spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments, which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.
