When Dance Arts Los Alamos Ballet Director and former American Ballet Theatre dancer Christin Severini was a young child, she would spend many hours choreographing and performing elaborate shows for her parents, with the reluctant participation of her younger brothers. The rest is, as they say, history.  
The storybook ballet, “Hansel and Gretel,” being performed WinterFest Weekend at the Duane Smith auditorium, is an original ballet directed and choreographed by Severini, with additional choreography by DALA’s Executive Director Valerie Silks and Ballet Instructor Lisa Jaegers.
“Hansel and Gretel” tells the story of the young siblings Hansel and Gretel, as they go through a journey, overcoming adversity and challenges.  
This ballet features enchanting woodland fairies and pixies, colorful candies and bunnies, butterflies and gingerbread girls, who guide them along the way.  
Severini’s career with ABT gave her the opportunity to perform in numerous full-length story ballets and she said she is delighted to bring this talent to the Los Alamos community.

Fill your holiday stockings with laughter as the citizens of Tuna, Texas, come to Dixon for Christmas. Join the Tuna characters as they attempt to cope with the traumas and dramas of the holidays.
“A Tuna Christmas” by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, is a comedy set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas. The plot centers on the town’s annual Christmas Yard Display Contest, won 14 times in a row by Vera Carp.
A mysterious “Christmas Phantom,” known for vandalizing the yard displays, has the contestants on edge. Among the subplots are Stanley Bumiller’s attempts to end his probation and leave Tuna; Bertha Bumiller’s attempt to hold her family together at Christmas time; and Joe Bob Lipsey’s struggle to mount successfully his production of “A Christmas Carol,” despite the town controller of the electric company threatening to turn the lights off.
The play is both a commentary and satire of small town, Texas life and attitudes. “A Tuna Christmas” is the second in a series of comedic plays set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas (preceded by “Greater Tuna” and followed by “Red, White and Tuna” and “Tuna Does Vegas.”

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Two-time Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg expressed a sense of humility Monday as he delivered the keynote address during ceremonies to mark the 149th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address.”
“I’ve never stood anyplace on earth where it’s easier to be humbled than here,” said Spielberg, whose biopic about the 16th president is currently in theaters.
His remarks were made at the annual event at the Soldier’s National Cemetery in Gettysburg, near the site where Lincoln gave the famous oration amid the American Civil War in 1863, four months after the battle in which the Union turned back an invasion of the North by Confederate troops under Gen. Robert E. Lee.
After spending seven years working his new movie “Lincoln,” Spielberg said the president came to feel like one of his oldest and dearest friends, and he sensed he was living in the presence of what he called Lincoln’s “eloquent ghost.”
“Lincoln wanted us to understand that equality was a small ‘D’ democratic essential,” Spielberg said, describing Lincoln’s three-minute speech as “his best and truest voice” and the single “most perfect prose poem ever penned by an American.”
