WASHINGTON (AP) — Meryl Streep may have gotten her next film assignment, Neil Diamond thanked the namesake of his famous tune “Sweet Caroline,” and a tux-clad Elmo honored his friend, Yo-Yo Ma. They were among several luminaries from Broadway, jazz and classical music to receive the Kennedy Center Honors Sunday night for their influence on American culture through the arts.

  • Adventure abounds in ‘mystery’ film

Next up in the Mesa Public Library’s Free Film Series is a story with fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love and miracles.
It’s not too scary, but there are some shrieking eels. An angry Spaniard repeatedly tells a man with a surplus finger to prepare to die. It’s almost a chant.
There’s an entire pit full of despair and a handful of quasi-sportsmanlike hand-to-hand combat.
There is a pack, or mischief, of really big rats to worry about, if they do actually exist, and an equally beastly Sicilian with a dizzying intellect.
