  • Pattinson sinks teeth into MTV Movie Awards

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — The MTV Movie Awards was more like “The Team Edward Show.”
“Twilight” star Robert Pattinson sucked up the spotlight — and some popcorn-shaped trophies — at Sunday’s shenanigan-packed ceremony. Among the goofy actor’s moments: winning three different awards, unexpectedly kissing co-star Taylor Lautner, and slipping the F-word past censors when presenting Reese Witherspoon with the special MTV Generation Award.
“It’s not always a bad thing to have sexual chemistry with your mother,” joked Pattinson, who played the son of Witherspoon’s character in “Vanity Fair” and her love interest in “Water for Elephants.”

  • Honors pile up for Swift

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Ludacris made a surprise appearance, as did Sheryl Crow’s underwear. Lady Antebellum laid down a funky beat with Charles Kelley doing a Don Henley impression. And a sassy Wynonna Judd put Kid Rock in his place.
Actress Kristin Chenoweth’s first CMT Music Awards left quite an impression Wednesday night.
“This show is entertaining,” Chenoweth said. “I think the Oscars could learn something from it.”

  • New Fox movie doesn’t have ‘X’ factor

LOS ANGELES — Young X-Men don’t have the same box-office superpowers as their older selves.
“X-Men: First Class” had a solid No. 1 opening with a $56 million weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.
But the 20th Century Fox prequel chronicling the formative years of the comic-book mutants found smaller audiences than the franchise’s first four big-screen adventures, which featured older versions of the X-Men.
Debut weekends for the last three “X-Men” flicks ranged from $85.1 million to $102.8 million. The original “X-Men” opened 11 years ago with $54.5 million, but that would amount to about $80 million today adjusting for ticket-price inflation.

  • 'Hangover' lingers with record $105.8M weekend

LOS ANGELES  — Hollywood has hustled up a hangover for the record books.
“The Hangover Part II” set a new high for comedy debuts with $105.8 million over the long Memorial Day weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The blockbuster sequel also led Hollywood to a new revenue record of around $280 million for the holiday weekend, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com.
That surpassed the previous record of $254.6 million in 2007. But factoring in today’s higher admission prices, more tickets were sold over the Memorial Day holiday that year than this past weekend.

  • Rock out with JT and the Clouds

On Friday, the Chicago band, JT and the Clouds will entertain fans of the Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series at Ashley Pond.
Though they prefer not to be labeled, JT and the Clouds are bluesy, rough-edged, soulful rockers. They’ve been compared to Sam Cooke, The Band, Velvet Underground, Prince, Curtis Mayfield, Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver and M. Ward. They’ll play ballads as well as jazz, folk-rock and Motown/Philly/Memphis-sounding dance music.
The group has been making music and touring since 2004. Last year the Chicago Tribune dubbed them as one of its “... ten artists on the bridge of breaking big in 2010.” The band is touring all over the country and the world, with Friday being Los Alamos’ turn.
