  • Experience The Police

    The Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series and the Police Experience return to Ashley Pond at 7 p.m. Friday to pay tribute to the Rock ’n Roll Hall of Fame band, The Police.
    The drummer for The Police, Stewart Copeland said, “every nuance, all the drum parts and the singer, has Sting down to a tee.”
    Taylor Hawkins, drummer for the Foo Fighters, has sat in with the Police Experience a number of times and tells the story of the first time he jammed with them in 2009.

  • The Greg Abate Trio kicks off Chamberfest

    Things are happening this summer in Los Alamos. The Friday night concerts seem to have a good turnout. The first show was May 18 at the Kite Fest and there were about 600 folks out there.
    The Red Elvises concert on May 25 drew around 2,500 people and last week’s Laurie Lewis bluegrass/folk concert drew about 1,500 folks.
    Last Friday was the start of what is referred to on Facebook as “Los Alamos Friday Night.” Some businesses are staying open late and trying things to bring more activity to town.

  • Get a peek at the 2012 opera season

    The Los Alamos Opera Guild, a member of The Guilds of The Santa Fe Opera, Inc. announces a presentation, “Preview of the Santa Fe Opera 2012,” by local opera singer Alicia Solomon, at 7 p.m. June 14 at Mesa Public Library, she will explain highlights of the five operas being performed by the Santa Fe Opera this season.
     All of the 2012 operas will be new productions by the SFO. Solomon will explain the history of other productions of “Tosca” by Puccini, which will be performed along with “The Pearl Fishers” by Bizet; “Maometto II” by Rossini; “King Roger” by Szymanowski and “Arabella” by Richard Strauss. There is no fee for this presentation but donations are welcome.

  • 'Putting on the Glitz' to raise money

    From sopranos Alicia Solomon, Jess Cullinan and Julia Fair, to the fashions by Uli’s boutiques of Santa Fe and Los Alamos, “Putting on the Glitz! Gals, Guys and Musical Divas” a musical fashion show.
    The Los Alamos Opera Guild, a member of the non-profit Guilds of the Santa Fe Opera, Inc., will host a gala fundraising event at
    3 p.m. Sunday at the Blue Window Bistro.
    Solomon and Cullinan will sing duets “Sull’aria,” from Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro,” “Flower Duet” from “Lakme” by Delibes and “Barcarolle” from “Tales of Hoffman” by Offenbach.
