Keith Richards said in his autobiography “Life,” that Bobby Keys is “my closest pal. A soul of rock ’n roll, a solid man and also a depraved maniac.”
Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series Promoter Russ Gordon, hopes that interests folks because Keys is playing with his New Mexico band, the Attitudes, Friday at Los Alamos National Bank. The show is free and starts at 7 p.m.

  • Movie Review: 'Dark Knight' doesn't deliver

It’s entirely possible that I’ve had my fill of superhero movies this summer.
After all, I’ve seen both “The Avengers” (fun and entertaining) and “The Amazing Spider-Man” (better than the other recent Spidey incarnation) since school let out.
So maybe, just maybe, I caught “The Dark Knight Rises” with superhero burnout — kind of like trying to stuff that last turkey sandwich into your craw five days after Thanksgiving.
But of the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, I have this to say: “meh.”

  • Slipknot creates a little Mayhem

I’ve been to many concerts: country, heavy metal, blues and even a few rap concerts. I like almost all types of music and typically enjoy seeing groups perform live.
Despite the various shows I’ve seen, I had never been to a music festival until the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival came to Albuquerque. I wasn’t quite sure how long the festival would last, or exactly what to expect. I did know this: in addition to the main stage at the Hard Rock Pavilion, there would be two additional stages on which various bands would perform.

  • Mariah Carey joins 'American Idol' as new judge--Video Extra

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Mariah Carey will join "American Idol" as a judge next season, Fox announced Monday, bringing her star power to the show that remains a ratings leader but has seen its viewership and pop culture status diminish.

"I am so excited to be joining 'Idol,'" said Carey, addressing the Television Critics Association via Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly's cell phone, which he put on speaker for the hotel ballroom meeting.

  • It’s boot scootin' boogie time

The Texas country-dance band the Derailers will play Friday at Entrada Business Park as part of the Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series.
Not only will it be Holiday Inn Express and LA Food Co-op Night, but also KTAOS FM 101.9 will be there and Deborah and Russ Gordon will celebrate her 38th wedding anniversary.
“I’m gonna help her celebrate since I was there in Petaluma, Calif., 38 years ago,” Gordon said. I remember that day very well and I also remember Aug. 21, 2009.”
On Aug. 21, 2009 the Derailers last played Los Alamos. According to Gordon, they put on a great concert, but at 9:15 p.m. the band said they would play their last song.
