    This week at the Youth Activity Center:
     Monday — Tug o’ war in WR, kickball in LA
    Tuesday — Half-court basketball
     Wednesday — Movies and munchies in WR, printmaking in LA
    Thursday — Around-the-rack pool tourney
    Friday — Tug o’war in LA, kickball in WR
    Membership is free and open to third through eighth graders.

    Monday
    The Los Alamos High School Spring Dance Show will be at 7 p.m. in the Duane Smith Auditorium. Enjoy performances by LAHS dance students and LAHS alumni. Admission is free.
    Tuesday
    LAFD is hosting a fundraiser for staff member Renee Collier’s daughter from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at Los Alamos National Bank to assist with her medical expenses. Teen Pulse staff writer Katelyn Collier has an extra electrical pathway in her heart that causes her to go into Supra-ventricular Tachycardia and has had to undergo surgery.

    The Rotary Club of Los Alamos meets at 11:45 a.m.  Tuesday at Central Avenue Grill.

    Three newly elected Los Alamos County Councilors, Geoff Rodgers, Jim Hall and Ron Selvage, will discuss their vision for future development in Los Alamos County at the Sierra Club meeting at 7 p.m. in the Upstairs Meeting Rooms of the Mesa Public Library.
    Thursday
    The Los Alamos Farmers’ Market opens at 7 a.m. and runs every Thursday morning through October in the Mesa Public Library parking lot.

    Los Alamos Lions Club meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month. Those interested in the Lions Club should call Dennis Wulff at 672-9563 or email drwulff47@aol.com

    Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is recruiting volunteers to help in the following areas: gardening, reading to individuals, leading a craft project, playing card or board games with residents, helping with Bingo, playing music or leading a sing-along session.     Today
    Party for Pajarito Environmental Education Center from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hilltop House Best Western. Join the Party for PEEC, a benefit dinner to support the Nature Center. The party will feature a poetry reading entitled, “Poemas Verdes,” an auction of services by local naturalists and a meal prepared with foods that were brought to the Americas by the early Spanish explorers and settlers. Tickets, $50 for adults, $95 per couple or $20 for youth ages 6-17.

    Coro de Camara will present a spring concert, “If Music Be the Food of Love, Sing On,” at 2:30 p.m. at Christ Church Santa Fe, 1213 Don Gaspar at Cordova. The event is free, but donations are accepted.

  • La Leche League meets Monday

    La Leche League of Los Alamos will discuss “Nutrition and Weaning” at their monthly morning meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the nursery at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road.
    All interested, pregnant, or breastfeeding women are welcome to learn and share, through mother-to-mother support, the basics and benefits of breastfeeding. A lending library with books and DVDs concerning childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting and nutrition is available.
    Nursing babies and toddlers who have difficulty separating, are welcome.

  • Chaperones needed for dance

    Parents of sixth and seventh graders are urged to chaperone the Six Sevies Dance at the Pueblo Gym from 7 - 9 p.m. Friday. Chaperones and their children are admitted at 6:45 p.m. Chaperones’ children will be admitted early and for free. Call Mary 662-9412 to volunteer. Big MAC is sponsored by the Youth Activity Center, a program of the Los Alamos Family Council.

    Art openings
    Fine tapestry artist Donna Loraine Contractor brings a solo exhibition of new work to Taos’ Weaving Southwest May 3-31. An opening reception and meet the artist opportunity for the show will be from 6-8 p.m. May 7 at the Weaving Southwest, 106A Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos.

    Jennifer J.L. Jones will exhibit, “Serenata,” new paintings at Hunter Kirkland Contemporary, 200-B Canyon Road, Santa Fe. An opening reception will be from 5-7 p.m. May 27. The exhibit continues through June 12.

    Art shows
    The Contemporary Clay Fair will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Santa Fe Woman’s Club, 1616 Old Pecos Trail.
