    Bradbury Science Museum Cinema. 10 a.m. Short science films ranging in topics from microbes to aquifers to addiction. The education level of these videos can range from elementary age to adults, depending on the video chosen. Visit lanl.gov/museum/events/calendar.shtml for topics of interest.

    “Race to Nowhere,” a film by LAHS student Tessa Snyder. 6:30 p.m. at UNM-LA Lecture Hall, building 2. Benefit showing and community discussion. A documentary film explaining the pressures faced by young people, teachers and parents in a pressure-cooker culture. Free, but any donations will go toward funding LAHS well-being projects.

    Authors Speak Series. Noted poets and publishers Veronica Golos and Andrea Watson. 7 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library Upstairs Rotunda.

    Los Alamos Community of Atheists will have its monthly meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. upstairs at Mesa Public Library. This month there will be an open discussion — bring questions or thoughts to share. Email losalamoscommunityofatheists@gmail.com or on facebook.

    The Family YMCA is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair until 10 p.m. The public is welcome to shop at the Y daily during normal business hours which are from 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m. A free bracelet will be given for each child that a book is purchased for. All proceeds from the sale go to benefit the Y’s Child Watch programs.

    The Democratic Party of Los Alamos will have a presentation from some members of the “ Plastic Bag Ban” group that has recently been formed in Los Alamos. Their goal is to ban single use plastic bags much like Santa Fe is now doing in an effort to protect the environment. All Democrats are welcome to attend the meeting that will be 7 p.m. at UNM-LA in Building 2.

Aaron Purtzer, director of the Reach and Rise program at the YMCA, will give a presentation about this new mentoring program for youths in Los Alamos. The public is welcome to attend.

    New Mexico Consortium is hosting Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce FAN Club. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Consortium’s Biolab, 100 Entrada Drive.
Free, open to Chamber members and community members who would like to learn more about the Consortium’s wide-ranging endeavors.

The speaker will be Eowyn Langholf from Albuquerque and her presentation is “A Quickie on the Wiki, It’s not that Tricky.” The public is invited. The traditional pre-meeting no host dinner will be 5:30 p.m. at China Moon and Langholf will be there to meet and visit.

    Pi Day Special Lecture with Reuben Hersh, “Mathematician’s Delight.” 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Bradbury Science Museum.

    Farewell Open House for Dr. Joseph Matthews, who will be discontinuing his dental practice in Los Alamos after 23 years of service. 1-3 p.m. at 112 Central Park Square.
