    Los Alamos Community of Atheists will have their monthly meeting 6:30 to 8 p.m. upstairs at Mesa Public Library. This month’s topic will be a second look at Pascal’s wager — is it a defensible argument for the belief in god? One of the members says it is, come find out why.     Winter Tree Care. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Certified arborist Laural Hardin is back at PEEC to talk about all the things you can do to help trees survive the winter and come out strong in the spring. She will cover topics such as water, tree wrap, and basic pruning. The presentation will also consider how changing climate effects tree dormancy, and what can be done to boost tree vigor and growth. This talk focuses mostly on non-native urban trees, but will include Ponderosa, Piñon and Juniper. $8 or $6 for PEEC members. No advance registration is required.     A chapter of The Compassionate Friends will meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the northeast side of the new YMCA Annex, Central Park Square, suite 140. Co-led by Eric Ferm and Valerie Wood. The organization offers non-denominational grief support after the death of a child. Bereaved parents and grandparents are welcome regardless of age. Jon Ventura of the office of the LANL Principal Associate Director for Weapons Programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory, will talk about the state of stockpile stewardship. 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Bradbury Science Museum. Admission is free and open to the public.

    Mesa Public Library Free Film Series presents a special holiday season film showing of “Joyeux Noel,” 2005, 6:30 p.m. On Christmas Eve during World War I, the Germans, French and Scottish fraternize and get to know the men who live on the opposite side of a brutal war, in what became a true lesson of humanity.
