  • Dog training class registration

    Registration for the next session of dog training classes offered by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club will begin Sept 6. Classes this session include Puppy PlaySchool, Basic Manners and Conformation and will begin the week of Sept 26.
    Class schedule, registration guidelines and registration form will be available at http://ladoc.dogbits.com and at the LADOC building, 246 East Road. Registration is first-come, first-served, so timely registration is advised.
    Registration materials must be postmarked by Sept 16.

  • Community announcements 08-11-11

    Drivers needed
    Los Alamos Lions Club provides services to the community. One activity is the HELP program, which started 30 years ago. The program provides free transportation for medical treatment and appointments outside the county. Patients are transported to Española, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. There are 30 drivers, but more are always needed. If you would like to be a volunteer driver call Barbara Croley at 672-3618 or Lee Sullivan at 661-8037.

    Art openings

    An opening reception for Eric Boyer and Charlotte Fousts’s “Color and Contours,” will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Hunter Kirkland Contemporary, 200-B Canyon Road, Santa Fe. The exhibit, steel wire mesh sculpture and mixed media on canvas and paper, runs through Aug. 25.

    An opening reception for the Santa Fe show, “Objects of Art,” will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at El Museo Cultural, 555 Camino de la Familia (in the Santa Fe Rail Yard). The cost is $50 at the door. For more information, call 660-4701 or visit SantaFeShow.com.

    Music
    “SuperSax New Mexico” will be from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 12 at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road. Tickets are $20 at the door.

    The Blue Window Bistro will host a jazz night at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 featuring the Bob Jones Quartet. The cost is $15 per person, dinner reservations are required.

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song. Besides the enjoyment of singing in harmony, our barbershop chorus and quartets experience the thrill of performing in the community. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall. Attendees will find their chapter meetings are well planned, musically satisfying and fun. Visitors are welcome.
