    A poetry gathering will be at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda of the Mesa Public Library.

    Talk on Climate Change by Chick Keller at 7 p.m. at PEEC, 3540 Orange St. Free and open to the public.

    The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will hold a barbecue at 6 p.m. at the home of Dr. Ann Wadstrom, 253 San Juan.  Members and potential new members are invited. Hamburgers and drinks will be supplied. Members, please bring a salad or dessert. Spouses, friends and family are welcome. For more information call Donna MacDonald at 662-4001 or Wadstrom at 662-7578.

    Basketball skills camp
    Coach Justin Black will run a basketball skills camp for grades three through eight, July 18-21. The event will be at Chamisa Elementary with a high school option available. The camp will run in the afternoons and varies depending upon age.
    The cost is $45 and the money raised will benefit the Chamisa and Aspen Elementary school Physical Education programs. For more information email Black at j.black@laschools.net or call 505-716-1149.

    Art openings
    Weaving Exhibit for Andrea Ortiz at Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center, 325 Paseo de Oñate, Espanola, through June 30.

    Colette Campbell-Jones will display, “Stories From Underground,” visual reconstructions of oral histories from the coal miners in South Wales. The exhibit will run through July 30 at photo-eye Gallery, 376-A Garcia St., Santa Fe.

    Art shows
    The Santa Fe Fiber Arts Festival will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at El Rancho de las Golondrinas, 334 Los Pinos Road, Santa Fe. Admission is $8 for adults; $5 for seniors and teens and free for children younger than 13.

    Music

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song.  Besides the enjoyment of singing in harmony, barbershop chorus and quartets experience the thrill of performing in the community. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall. Attendees will find their chapter meetings are well planned, musically satisfying and fun. Visitors are welcome.
     
    The Los Alamos Community Winds invites all interested musicians to join its upcoming concerts. No audition is necessary, but proficiency on a wind or percussion instrument is required. The LACW rehearses from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays. www.lacw.org.

    Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is recruiting volunteers to help in the following areas: gardening, reading to individuals, leading a craft project, playing card or board games with residents, helping with Bingo, playing music or leading a sing-along session.
