    The Boy Scouts of America is having its annual Fire-Up for Scouting Cub Scout recruiting events at fire stations in Los Alamos and White Rock. Event No. 1 will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Station No. 3, 129 State Road 4 in White Rock. Boys who will graduate from Kindergarten through fourth grades (5-10 years old) can be registered for the Cub Scouting program, including summer activities such as June Day Camp.     Antarctica Through the Lens of “National Geographic.” 7 p.m. Last November, Los Alamos local Stephen Becker embarked on the National Geographic Explorer ship to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island and Antarctica. During this voyage, the “National Geographic” photographers produced a 50-minute video. Becker will show the video, and talk about the trip in this event at PEEC. Free.     Zane Bennett Contemporary Art announces an exhibition: “Bits and Pieces: Works by Karina Hean, Catherine Gangloff and Michel Déjean.” Through Saturday.

    Zane Bennett Contemporary Art announces an exhibition: “A Day in the Life: Works by Holly Roberts.” The opening exhibition will be 5-7 p.m. May 30. Show runs until June 21.
    Art tours
    Santa Fe Studio Tour 2014 is a free, self-guided tour open to the public that meanders throughout Santa Fe featuring more than 30 open studios and the work of 60 Santa Fe artists. Many artists give demonstrations of their craft and share techniques and philosophies with visitors. The tour begins with a preview party and group show from all participating artists, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 27. Then all participating artists open their creative sanctuaries to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 28 and June 29. The public can explore the studios of jewelers, painters, sculptors and ceramists.

    Monthly FAN Club (Food and Networking after-hours) on historic Bathtub Row. The Los Alamos Historical Society is hosting, with catering provided by Peggy Pendergast. Parking available at the Senior Center, Fuller Lodge or library lots. Meeting will be about the Historical Society’s plans for the house and more about plans in advance of a Manhattan Project National Historic Park designation, and there will be plenty of time for networking. 5:30-7 p.m. at Bethe House, 1350 Bathtub Row. All Chamber members and potential Chamber members are invited. Free.

    The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board’s next meeting will be 6 p.m. in Building No. 1, Camino Entrada Road, Pajarito Cliffs Site. Bernadette Lauritzen will give an update on the Assets in Action program. The public is welcome to attend.

    The Los Alamos Photo Club (LAPC) meets from 7-9 p.m., the third Tuesday of each month, upstairs in Fuller Lodge Art Center. The focus of LAPC is photography in general. LAPC normally has one or two field trips per year and occasionally sponsors workshops and classes. All are welcome. Dues are $12 per year and are good for the Los Alamos Adobe Users Group.     Los Alamos County will be holding public information meetings in Los Alamos at the current Teen Center, located in the lower level of the Trinity On the Hill Episcopal Church from 3-5 p.m. for the teens and then at the Community Building (future Teen Center site) from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to update residents on the design of the new Los Alamos Teen Center.

    The April meeting of the Los Alamos Genealogical Association will be 7 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library. The program is “Genealogical Potpourri” and will feature an inspiring story about Scottish Heritage, some discussion questions, and some genealogical tidbits from you tube. The traditional no-host dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the China Moon restaurant.

    Waterfalls of New Mexico. 7 p.m. Join Doug Scott and PEEC for a slideshow and lecture on the waterfalls of New Mexico. Of special interest is that a new 80-foot high waterfall is being formed this year, and Scott is documenting this formation. Free. No advance registration is required.     LA Walks meeting. 5-6 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library upstairs meeting room No. 1. Public is invited to meet with the LA Walks advocacy group and to help develop ideas that would ensure pedestrian safety and convenience in Los Alamos County.

    The Los Alamos Volunteer Examiner Group will be giving exams for Amateur Radio Licenses. The session will be 6:30 p.m. in the Club Meeting Room at 4017 Arkansas Ave. (the Old Fire Barn). For a new license bring a picture ID or two other forms of ID with name and address one them, such as a bill. Fee is $15 cash or check made out to “ARRL VEC.” Social Security number is required on the form 605 License Application. For a license upgrade, bring picture ID or two other forms of ID plus the original license and a copy of the license, or a valid CSCE (Certificate of Successful Completion of Exam) and a copy of the CSCE plus the exam fee of $15.
