    The Los Alamos Piecemakers Quilt Guild meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the side room at White Rock Baptist Church. They will make a needle case during the meeting. Bring a small pair of scissors and a large eye needle. You can also bring any embellishments you would like to use on the needle case. They will also pass out the guidelines for the Leprechaun Challenge. The Guild welcomes beginning and experienced quilters.

    “Metal Menageries: Sculptures by Richard Swenson and David Trujillo” opens with a public reception from 5:30-7 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda and art gallery at Mesa Public Library. Peggy Pendergast will cater refreshments. This is a Chamber of Commerce FAN Club event in conjunction with the Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries. The exhibit will be on display during regular library hours, through Feb. 27.

    The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board’s next meeting will be at 6:15 p.m. in Building #1, Camino Entrada Road, Pajarito Cliffs Site. The public is welcome to attend.

    Collaborative Restoration of the Jemez Mountains. Come to PEEC to hear about The Nature Conservancy’s restoration and conservation projects in the Jemez. Forest Conservation Program Manager Anne Bradley will discuss their partnership with “Conservation Canines” to study Jemez Mountain Salamanders. 7 p.m. Free. No registration required.      The Los Alamos Big Band will present their annual Christmas Dance from 7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Parish Hall, 3700 Canyon Road. The dance will be a special performance to honor the memory of Cathy LeClaire, a former member of the Big Band vocal quartet, the Mountainaires. LeClaire, her husband Rene with Steve and Terry Coggeshall, sang for many years with LABB in the style of the Glenn Miller quartet, the Modernaires. Rene will be the guest vocalist for the upcoming dance. All are welcome to come and dance or just sit and listen to live, authentic Big Band music. Admission is free, although contributions to the Cathy LeClaire Memorial Organ Fund will be welcome.
