    The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents “The Ant Bully,” at 7 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

    Sharon Argenbright, a nurse at Christus St.Vincent Hospital and a representative of the union to Central Labor Council, will be a guest speaker at the Democratic Party of Los Alamos’ meeting from 7-8 p.m. in the Mesa Public Library, second floor. She will talk about the labor practices Christus St. Vincent used and how they were able to keep collective bargaining that ensured that the patient/nurse ratio did not increase, as the hospital wanted.

    Volunteers needed

    “Do you like to talk? The Los Alamos Historical Museum is looking for volunteers to greet visitors in the museum and tell them about the great history of our community. No experience required! We’ll train you. Docent shifts are weekdays from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. to mid-October and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-4 p.m. the rest of the year. Contact the museum offices at 662-6272 for more information.
    Drivers needed

    Los Alamos Lions Club provides services to the community. One activity is the HELP program. The program provides free transportation for medical treatment and appointments outside the county.

    Book signings

    Linda Mae Valencia, a Rio Rancho resident, will sign her book, “God, the Angels and Me,” from 2-4 p.m. Friday at Albertsons, 3001 S. St. Francis Dr., Santa Fe.

    Classes

    Music

    The Blue Window Bistro will donate proceeds from all sales to help with the medical expenses of Angelina Rivera, who has been diagnosed with Interstitial cystitis, Sphinter of Oddi and nerve damage. Dinner is served from 5-8:30 p.m.

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song.  Besides the enjoyment of singing in harmony, our barbershop chorus and quartets experience the thrill of performing in the community. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall. Attendees will find their chapter meetings are well planned, musically satisfying and fun. Visitors are welcome.

    Join the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board as they celebrate the award of a State Farm Youth Advisory Board Grant: The Los Alamos Youth Food Project. A brief celebration and check presentation will be from 3-3:30 p.m. at Los Alamos Middle School, 2101 Hawk Dr. Look for the celebration near the entrance of LAMS, next to the Pledge Garden.

  • La Leche League meeting

    La Leche League of Los Alamos will discuss, “Nutrition and Weaning” at their monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the Nursery at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road.
     All interested, pregnant, or breastfeeding women are welcome to learn and share, through mother-to-mother support, the basics and benefits of breastfeeding. A lending library with books and audio tapes concerning childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting and nutrition is available. Nursing babies and toddlers who have difficulty separating, are welcome.
