    Today
    “Play Again,” an award-winning documentary about children’s imbalance between the natural and virtual worlds will be at 6:30 p.m. at Pajarito Environmental Education Center, 3540 Orange St. Suggested donation is $7.     The Atomic City Corvette Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Time Out Pizzeria in White Rock. Election of club officers is on the agenda, so members should make a special effort to attend. Guests are welcome.

    Art openings

    Studio 122 artist P.E. Baldwin, Carole Whitmore, Paula Shaw and Pat Berge will be featured in a group show titled, “October” at the Gallery at Wells Fargo Bank, 241 Washington Ave., Santa Fe, for the month of October. There will be a reception from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 7. Refreshments will be served.

    Northern New Mexico President Nancy (Rusty) Barcelo will honor 2011 scholarship recipients and donors at the 16th Annual Scholarship Awards and Donor Recognition Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Ohkay Owingeh Conference Center.     Music

    The Blue Window Bistro will host a Jazz Night featuring the Jan McDonald Jazz Trio, from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 8. Tickets are $15 per person and dinner reservations are required.

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song.  Besides the enjoyment of singing in harmony, our barbershop chorus and quartets experience the thrill of performing in the community. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall. Attendees will find their chapter meetings are well planned, musically satisfying and fun. Visitors are welcome.

     The Valles Caldera fall highway cleanup will be at 5 p.m. Meet at the entrance of Ponderosa Campground and carpool to the Valles Caldera. Bring work gloves, bags will be supplied. For more information, call David Gemeinhart at 662-6267.

  • La Leche League meeting Monday

    La Leche League of Los Alamos will discuss “Why breastfeed your baby?” at their monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the Nursery at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road.
    All interested, pregnant, or breastfeeding women are welcome to learn and share, through mother-to-mother support, the basics and benefits of breastfeeding.
    A lending library with books and audiotapes concerning childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting and nutrition is available.
    Nursing babies and toddlers who have difficulty separating are welcome.
    LLL is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing information, education, support and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.

    The LAHS NJROTC will host a barbecue brisket night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Posse Lodge on North Mesa. Meals include barbecue brisket, potato salad, vegetable, a roll, drink and dessert for $10 a plate.

    Chit chat and change diapers, 10:30-noon, at Family Strengths Network. This is a discussion group for first-time parents of newborns to age three. They will discuss games for baby, media and moderation and childproofing.  Refreshments are provided. No registration required, drop in for any session.

    Art openings

    Zane Bennett Contemporary Arts, 435 S. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, presents an exhibition of prints celebrating the 20th Century’s master artists, including George Condo, Richard Diebenkorn, Roy Lichtenstein and Edward Ruscha, among others. The show opens from 5-7 p.m. Friday.

    Hunter Kirkland Contemporary, 200-B Canyon Road, Santa Fe, will host an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday for T. Barny and Gregory Frank Harris.
