    The NaNoWriMo TGIO party will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda of Mesa Public Library.

    The December meeting of the Los  Alamos Master Gardeners will be a holiday potluck at 6 p.m. at the home of Denise George, 411 Cheryl, White Rock.

    Bring a song to sing for tryouts at 7 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Unitarian Church, 1328 Sage. A new musical, the world premier of “Petra and the Jay,” will be produced April 13 and 14, 2012. Cast includes 13 speaking and/or singing parts and a chorus.     Art openings

    An opening reception for “Continuum” by Michael Levin will be from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 6 at photo-eye Gallery, 376-A Garcia St., Santa Fe. The exhibit will be on display through Feb. 4.

    Arts and crafts fairs

    The 23rd annual Winter Spanish Market will be Friday-Sunday at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, 201 W. Marcy St., Santa Fe.

    The 11th Annual Contemporary Hispanic Winter Market will be from 1-8 p.m. Dec. 9; and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center. Among the works exhibited will be various types of modern media including: painting, sculptures, photography, printmaking, furniture, ceramics, jewelry and more. Admission is free.

    A book fair to benefit the Los Alamos Medical Center Auxiliary will be from
    9 a.m.-3 p.m.  in the main lobby area of LAMC.

  • LA Happenings 11-24-11

    Music
    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall.  

    The Los Alamos Choral Society is currently recruiting singers for the 2011—2012 concert season. Rehearsals are from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road. All singers are welcome.
     
    The Los Alamos Community Winds invites all interested musicians to join its upcoming concerts. The LACW rehearses from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays. www.lacw.org.

    Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club
    Members ride each Tuesday and Thursday, leaving at 5:30 p.m. from the hospital parking lot. Newcomers are welcome.
    Table tennis
    Scottish country dancing is from 7:30-10 p.m. every Monday night at Fuller Lodge. Beginners welcome, no partner or kilt needed.

    Living Treasures of Los Alamos welcomes nominations of new Treasures for the next ceremony April 15, 2012. Only candidates who are current Los Alamos residents and  have made outstanding contributions to the life, heart and spirit of our community are eligible to become Treasures. A written letter of nomination which Includes as much information as possible about the nominee  should be sent to LTLA, P.O.
