    The Los Alamos Volunteer Examiner group will host the first amateur radio exam session of the year at 6:30 p.m. at the “Old Fire Barn,” 4017Arkansas, in the upstairs meeting room. There will be testing for all classes of license. A calculator can be used during the exam, but cell phones as calculators are not permitted.     Art openings

    The New Mexico Museum of Art presents, “Between the Lines: Culture and Cartography on the Road to Statehood.” Maps tell the story in Governor’s Gallery Centennial Exhibition. There will be a public reception from 4-6 p.m. today on the fourth floor of the New Mexico State Capitol.

    Act I Gallery presents “Seasons of the Rio Grande,” a solo exhibition by Ken Daggett. There will be an opening reception from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at the gallery, 218 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos. The show will continue through Feb. 17.

    Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club members ride each Tuesday and Thursday, leaving at 5:30 p.m. from the hospital parking lot. Newcomers are welcome.
    Table tennis

    There will be a Salvation Army bell ringer thank you reception from 5-6 p.m. at the White Rock Senior Center. Celebrate the generosity and good will that graced the community this holiday season and thank the individuals that helped make it happen.

    Asset awards tickets for sale

    Assets In Action and the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board will host the Third annual Community Asset Awards on Jan. 7. The tickets are $10 each and include an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet from Chef Diego Torres at the Best Western Hilltop House Hotel. Reserve tickets by calling 661-4846, they will not be available at the door.

    Los Alamos Little Theatre presents “A Thousand Clowns,” by Herb Gardner. Cowgirl BBQ will cater a Texas-style dinner. There will be a New Year’s Eve countdown and celebration, with music and dancing following the show. Patrick Kelly will act as emcee and DJ. Tickets are $45 per person and are available at CB Fox Department Store. Doors open at 7 p.m.

    Youth Center schedule

    The White Rock Youth Activity Center will be closed from Dec. 27-30. The Los Alamos Youth Activity Center will be open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. that week during LAPS winter break. Children that usually attend the WRYAC are welcome to use the LAYAC that week.

    Drivers needed
    Los Alamos Lions Club provides services to the community, including the HELP program. The program provides free transportation for medical treatment and appointments outside the county. Patients are transported to Española, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. If you would like to be a volunteer driver call Barbara Croley at 672-3618 or Lee Sullivan at 661-8037.
