    Donations accepted

    The Reading Program at Barranca Mesa Elementary is accepting donations of gently used children’s books and chapter books. Leave books in the school office for Julie Collins or Elizabeth Watson.

    Pet supplies

    A pet supply drive is underway to benefit a Los Alamos Middle School project. If you have donations of any type of pet supplies, they can be dropped off at KRSN AM 1490, The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce, Betty Ehart Senior Center and the White Rock Senior Center after Jan. 1. Collars and leashes are in demand, but any items are appreciated. Call 672-4089 for more information.

    Art openings

    Zane Bennett Contemporary Art presents an installment of the Virtual Dinner Guest Project at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 435 S. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe.

    Zane Bennett Contemporary Art presents an exhibition celebrating the significance of the L.A. art scene from post-World War II year through the 60s and 70s. Artists included are John Baldessari, Judy Chicago, Richard Diebenkorn, Guy Dill, Sam Francis and Edward Ruscha. The show opens Jan. 27 and continues through Feb. 17. A public reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 27 at the gallery, 435 S. Guadalupe St.

    The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents, “Shrek Forever After,” at 7p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

    The Democratic Party meeting will  be  at 7 p.m. at Mesa Library, on the second floor. They will address, organize and plan the upcoming Los Alamos County Convention in February. Some PRC candidates may attend the meeting to educate them about their positions. Primary voting is in June.

     The Los Alamos County Republican Party will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Best Western Hilltop House, third floor conference room.

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall.  

    The Los Alamos Choral Society is currently recruiting singers for the 2011—2012 concert season.
    Rehearsals are from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road. All singers are welcome.
