    Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club
    Members ride each Tuesday and Thursday, leaving at 5:30 p.m. from the hospital parking lot. Newcomers are welcome.

    Scottish country dancing is from 7:30-10 p.m. every Monday night at Fuller Lodge. Beginners welcome, no partner or kilt needed.

    Nominate a
    Living Treasure
    Living Treasures of Los Alamos welcomes nominations of new Treasures for the next ceremony April 15, 2012. Only candidates who are current Los Alamos residents and  have made outstanding contributions to the life, heart and spirit of our community are eligible to become Treasures. A written letter of nomination which Includes as much information as possible about the nominee  should be sent to LTLA, P.O. Box 1065, Los Alamos, N.M. 87544 or by email to rosalieheller88@gmail.com.
    To help in the preparation of the letter, guidelines and biographies of all current Treasures can be found at livingtreasureslosalamos.org.

    The Los Alamos Elks Lodge, with assistance from the VFW and American Legion, will host the annual community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge. Any and all are welcome to enjoy a free traditional Thanksgiving dinner. For more information, contact Lisa Harris or Reine Williams at the Elks Lodge, 662-5611.

    A book fair to benefit the Los Alamos Medical Center Auxiliary will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 30 and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 1 in the main lobby area of LAMC.

    Los Alamos Life is a new glossy annual magazine set to publish in February 2012. The publication will present a quintessential snapshot of moments in the life of Los Alamos. The magazine will be reminiscent of the iconic Life magazine, but it will be bolder and more colorful in its presentation.

    Big M.A.C. is having a Welcome Back Dance for  middle school students only from 7-9 p.m. at Pueblo  Gym on Diamond Drive. Admission is $3 and students whose parents volunteer to  chaperone get in free. Parent chaperones are needed. Big M.A.C. is  sponsored by the Youth Activity Center, a program of the Los Alamos Family  Council. Call 662-9412 for more information and to volunteer to chaperone.

    The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents, “Winnie the Pooh,” at 7 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

    The Authors Speak Series presents “David Stuart: People of the Pajarito Plateau,” at 7 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda. The event is being held one week earlier due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

    The Los Alamos Democratic Party featured speaker will be  Donald Morris, a longtime Los Alamos Democrat. He will speak at 7 p.m. at Mesa Public Library. All are welcome to attend.   

    The Los Alamos County Republican Party will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Hill Top House, third floor conference room.

    Art openings

    James Kelly Contemporary presents an opening reception for the artist, Arlene Shechet, from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 550 S. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe.

    Zane Bennett Contemporary Art will celebrate a sculpture installation by Pascal at Amelia White Park at 3 p.m. Saturday. The park is at the northeast corner of Old Santa Fe Trail and Camino Corrales. A reception will follow, from 3:45-5 p.m. at the gallery, 435 S. Guadalupe St.

    Zane Bennett Contemporary Art announces the inaugural Affordable Art Group Show. The show opens Nov. 25, with a public reception will be from 5-7 p.m. The gallery is located at 435 S. Guadalupe St. in Santa Fe.
