    Donations accepted
    The Reading Program at Barranca Mesa Elementary is accepting donations of gently used children’s books and chapter books. Leave books in the school office for Julie Collins or Elizabeth Watson.

    Drivers needed
    Los Alamos Lions Club provides services to the community, including the HELP program, which started 30 years ago. The program provides free transportation for medical treatment and appointments outside the county. Patients are transported to Española, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. There are 30 drivers, but more are always needed. If you would like to be a volunteer driver call Barbara Croley at 672-3618 or Lee Sullivan at 661-8037.

    The Sierrans will join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center in a presentation by Christine Chavez, Los Alamos County Water and Energy Conservation coordinator, at 7 p.m. at 3540 Orange St. Chavez’s talk will focus on the energy audit that is free for Los Alamos residents to help uncover new and easy ways to conserve water and electricity in the home.

    The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture will present a major retrospective spanning 20 years of the self-taught artist Margarete Bagshaw. Opening from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 12, “Margarete Bagshaw: Breaking the Rules” will feature more than 30 paintings, bronze and clay as wall art and multi-colored ceramic vessels that demonstrate the breadth and multi-dimensionality of her work.     Music

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall.  

    The Los Alamos Choral Society is recruiting singers for the 2011—2012 concert season.

    Rehearsals are from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road. All singers are welcome.

     Wild Wednesday workshops begin at Pajarito Environmental Education Center with Primitive Snowshoe Construction for kids in first through sixth grade.
