    The next Los Alamos Community Blood Drive is from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 2200 Diamond Dr. Every donor will receive a limited edition alien T-shirt while supplies last. Allow about one hour to give blood, including screening and blood draw. For more information, visit unitedbloodservices.org, or log in and register. Walk-ins always welcome.

    The White Rock Family Friendly Films series presents, “The Muppets” at 7 p.m. at the White Rock Town Hall.

    Art openings

    There will be an artist reception from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday featuring “Domestic Variations,” a photo exhibit by Julie Blackmon. The opening will be at photo-eye Gallery, 376-A Garcia St., Santa Fe.

    “Boom Blooms, Bugs and Blossoms,” an exhibit featuring work by Cheri Reckers and Michael Ceschiat, will be on display through July 27.

    Music

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall.  

    The Los Alamos Choral Society is recruiting singers. Rehearsals are from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road. All singers are welcome.

    The Los Alamos Community Winds invites all interested musicians to join its upcoming concerts. The LACW rehearses from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays. lacw.org.

    The HillStompers hold weekly rehearsals at 7 p.m. Mondays at the United Church (no drill). Anyone who plays a marching band instrument is welcome, regardless of age or skill level. 661-7646.

    Celebrate the national parks and get into the 4th of July spirit with the opening reception for a new exhibit of photos by Leslie Bucklin titled, “Enchanted Parks: A Photographic Tale of Life in Our National Parks.” Refreshments and gallery walk-through with the artist from 5-7 p.m. Show runs through Aug. 6.

    Mesa Public Library Free Film Series presents the next in the Foreign Film Series, “Volver” (R) from Spain. Directed by Pedro Almodovar starring Penelope Cruz, at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting rooms of Mesa Public Library.

    The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents “Miss Minoes” (PG), at 7 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.

  • La Leche League meets Monday

    La Leche League of Los Alamos will discuss “Breastfeeding and Avoiding Difficulties” at their monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the nursery at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road.

    All interested, pregnant or breastfeeding women are welcome to learn and share, through mother-to-mother support, the basics and benefits of breastfeeding. A lending library with books and audio tapes concerning childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting and nutrition is available. Nursing babies and toddlers who have difficulty separating, are welcome.
