  • Youth Activity Center schedule 05-22-11

    This week at the Youth Activity Center:
     Monday — Free throw contests
    Tuesday — Lego towers
     Wednesday — Movies and munchies in White Rock, dreamcatchers
    in Los Alamos
    Thursday — Air hockey
    Friday — Frisbee (last day of school)

    Membership is free and open to third through eighth graders. Summer hours begin May 31. The YAC is open all summer, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Kids promoted to third grade may join on May 31 and kids promoted to eighth grade may join the Teen Center and will be put on the YAC expired list. For more information, call 662-9412 or 672-1565.
    The Youth Activity Center is a program  of the Los Alamos Family Council.

  • Out and about 05-19-11

    Art openings

    Colette Campbell-Jones will display, “Stories From Underground,” visual reconstructions of oral histories from the coal miners in South Wales. The exhibit will run through July 30 at photo-eye Gallery, 376-A Garcia St., Santa Fe. An opening reception will be from 5-7 p.m. June 3.

    Jennifer J.L. Jones will exhibit, “Serenata,” new paintings at Hunter Kirkland Contemporary, 200-B Canyon Road, Santa Fe. An opening reception will be from 5-7 p.m. May 27. The exhibit continues through June 12.

  • LA Happenings 05-19-11

    Music

    The Jan McDonald Jazz Trio will perform from 7:30-9:30 p.m. June 4 at the Blue Window Bistro. Tickets are $15 per person and dinner reservations are required.

    Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites the public to join them in song.  Besides the enjoyment of singing in harmony, barbershop chorus and quartets experience the thrill of performing in the community. They meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall. Attendees will find their chapter meetings are well planned, musically satisfying and fun. Visitors are welcome.

The fair will be at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall. Set-up will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the fair will end at 7 p.m. To sponsor a table or for more information, email NarumHC@yahoo.com.

    SAN needs more volunteers

    Senior Appreciation Night, the safe, supervised all-night graduation celebration sponsored by the community is in need of 23 additional volunteer chaperones for its May 28 event. Volunteers will supervise activities are or run small events.
    Specific needs for helpers include shifts from 5:30-9 p.m. (six people needed); 7-11 p.m. (three people needed); 9 p.m.-12 a.m. (six people needed); and 12-3 a.m. (eight people needed) to chaperone the movie.
    Volunteers should contact Diana Martinez at the YMCA at 662-3100,
    or email dmartinez@laymca.org to sign up for a time.
