Still Life class at Art Center

Take advantage of a rare opportunity to explore still life in oils with renowned local artist Betty Nance Smith, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Fuller Lodge Art Center.
The class is designed for students with some experience in oil painting. In the morning Smith will demonstrate the techniques she has developed to create certain effects. Throughout the afternoon students will paint as Smith provides individual instruction and critique.
Smith’s oils have been honored in prestigious national and regional juried Oil Painters of America shows earning her signature member status. Her realistic oil still lifes capture select arrangements with an uncanny sense of just a moment. The pieces seem timeless while also capturing the lighting of a passing glimpse. A commercial at the Reel Deal Theater offers her services as a commission painter, featuring a slideshow of her lovely richly colored images.
To join the one-day workshop “Exploring Still Life in Oils,” call the Art Center at 662-1635 or stop by between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 2132 Central Ave. The cost is $65 and class size is limited to 10 students.
