    The Los Alamos Community Winds invites all interested musicians to join its upcoming concerts. No audition is necessary, but proficiency on a wind or percussion instrument is required. The LACW rehearses from  7-9 p.m. Tuesdays. www.lacw.org.

    The Blue Window Bistro in Los Alamos will host a five-course dinner for New Year’s Eve celebrants. Tickets are $55 per person and include five courses and a glass of sparkling wine. Seating will be from 5-9 p.m. Reservations are recommended but walk-ins will be accommodated if possible. For reservations call 662-6305.

    “The Next Frontier: Engineering the Golden Age of Green,” a documentary featuring American and European solutions to energy problems, will be screened at 7 p.m. at Pajarito Environmental Education Center, 3540 Orange St. The film will be introduced by the director and filmmaker, Brad Marshland. The event is free and open to the public, with donations welcome.

    A discussion of the U.S.-Russia New START nuclear weapons treaty will be presented at an open meeting of the Los Alamos Committee on Arms Control and International Security at 7:30 p.m. in the lounge at the United Church.  The meeting, which will be moderated by retired LANL weapons scientist Thurman Talley, will cover the treaty’s verification provisions and review the reasons to support ratification by the Senate.
