    A Christmas in New Mexico dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe Lodge, 750 N. St. Francis Dr. It is sponsored by the Christian Women’s Club and the After 5 Club. The Mariachi Buenaventura (Santa Fe’s all-female Mariachis) will entertain. Speaker Dean Graves of Albuquerque will present “The Blessings of Prison Life.”  Cost is $20 inclusive. Friends and family are invited. For reservations call Fran at 473-7934 or Barbara at 690-9831.

    Key Club collects donations

    The Los Alamos High School Key Club is collecting $1 donations to mail shoes to foreign countries, which will help children receive an education and cut down on disease. High school student Anna Carroll is working to change the world with the help of the schools, community and the Kiwanis club.

    The Los Alamos High School Band invites the public to their annual Winter Concert at 7 p.m. at the Duane Smith Auditorium. Also performing this evening will be the Los Alamos Middle School band.

    Nate Downey will speak on permaculture and his new book “Harvest the Rain,” as part of the Winter Wednesdays Talk, at 7 p.m. at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center, 3540 Orange St.

    Sponsor a family

    The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi adopts a family every year through the Los Alamos school system.  They solicit the school counselors to identify needy LA families and give them an Adopt a Family “application.”
    Beta Sigma Phi then goes out in the community and asks other families and businesses to sponsor the families. The sponsors provide each member of the family with one gift (listed on the application) and a Smith’s giftcard (in the amount of $25 per family member) to buy food for a Christmas dinner.

    The Los Alamos Community Winds invites all interested musicians to join its upcoming concerts. No audition is necessary, but proficiency on a wind or percussion instrument is required. The LACW rehearses from  7-9 p.m. Tuesdays. www.lacw.org.

Please plan to attend this event to thank Con Alma/Northern New Mexico Health Grant Group for continued support of JJAB and local agency programs.Pizza and refreshments will be served. There will also be a door prize.

    The annual crèche exhibit, a free community event, will be from 1-7:30 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 4. Refreshments are provided. There will be a separate touching room where the children will find touchable nativities such as crocheted nativities and finger puppets and they can color their own creche.
