The Los Alamos YMCA conducted an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the noon hour Monday for its new "Y Express" facility located at 140 Central Park Square.
The 3,600-square-foot location is a"scaled-down version of our Y--offering space primarily for functional training and group exercise," according to YMCA officials. "The Y Express offers a new kind of workout, along with more of your favorite classes like Zumba and Power-up."
The impetus for the expansion project came from overcrowding in some classes and programs at the Y's main facility nearby on Iris Street.
"We have overcrowded classes, such as Zumba and Power Up--in fact we turn away folks in some classes. We have classes in less-than-ideal conditions due to lack of space. We are challenged to offer more classes, again due to lack of space. Last winter, we experienced crowded weight room conditions, particularly at lunch time and after work," CEO Linda Daly said in a letter to members regarding the expansion.
