Yet another round of winter heads this way

The National Weather Service has issued the following special weather statement:

A POWERFUL AND COLD WINTER STORM STRENGTHENING OVER THE NORTHWESTERN U.S. WILL DIVE SHARPLY TO THE FOUR CORNERS TONIGHT AND THEN SWEEP EASTWARD ACROSS THE HEART OF NEW MEXICO SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT.

SNOWFALL IN THE TEETH OF GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BEGIN OVER THE FOUR CORNERS LATE TONIGHT... AND SPREAD RAPIDLY SOUTH AND EXPAND EASTWARD THROUGH THE DAY ON SUNDAY... REACHING THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. SNOWFALL AND WIND WILL TAPER OFF GRADUALLY OVERNIGHT SUNDAY AS THE CORE OF THE STORM MOVES OUT INTO THE EASTERN PLAINS AND NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS OF NEW MEXICO.

SNOWFALL WILL FAVOR THE SUMMITS AND SLOPES OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE... THE SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS... AND OVER THE SAN JUAN AND JEMEZ MOUNTAINS. SNOWFALLS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE OVER THE SUMMITS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS. REDUCED SNOW AMOUNTS ARE LIKELY FOR THE FOOTHILLS AND VALLEYS.

GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL PRODUCE AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW... WITH POOR VISIBILITIES AND POSSIBLE DRIFTS ACROSS ROADS HEADING INTO SUNDAY NIGHT. CONDITIONS SHOULD IMPROVE GRADUALLY BY MONDAY MORNING. SUNDAY TEMPERATURES WILL ALSO DROP UP TO 20 DEGREES AS THE COLDER AIR MOVES IN. WIND CHILL WILL FALL BELOW ZERO IN SPOTS SUNDAY EVENING.
