The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys and girls cross country teams will host a slew of solid competition Friday at Los Alamos Golf Course.
The Hilltoppers are set to host the Los Alamos Invitational. The junior varsity races are scheduled to start at 3 p.m. with the varsity races getting going at 4:10 p.m.
Friday’s race will be the first of two straight contests Los Alamos will host at the golf course. Los Alamos is also the home team for this year’s District 2-4A championship meet. That race is scheduled for Oct. 28.
“They’re really excited,” Hilltopper head coach Kathy Hipwood said. “Everybody gets really excited for the home meet.”
This will be the final appearance of the season for most of the teams’ sub-varsity runners. Los Alamos is allowed to run nine at the district meet — most cross country races consist of seven varsity runners.
Along with the Hilltopper teams, other participants include Los Alamos’ arch-rival Albuquerque Academy, St. Pius X, Pojoaque, Sue Cleveland and all the District 2-4A schools.
Los Alamos and Academy have, of course, been the top programs in Class 4A for the past decade-plus. St. Pius is a solid 4A school and Cleveland is a highly-rated Class 5A program.
In between the JV and varsity contests is the Elementary School Mile Run at 4:45 p.m.
