No one can accuse the Los Alamos Hilltopper wrestling team of resting on its laurels this month.
The Hilltoppers hosted their second event of the a six-event slate Wednesday afternoon, entertaining Albuquerque Academy, Capital, Pecos and Rio Rancho at Auxiliary Gymnasium.
Los Alamos won just one of the four duals contests Wednesday, its final dual against Pecos. Nevertheless, Los Alamos was feeling upbeat afterwards.
“We did alright,” Hilltopper senior Desmond Fellers said. “We’ve got a lot of things to improve on, finishing our shots, finishing our half-nelsons, but overall, I think we did really good.”
Fellers, who is just getting back to action following a dislocated shoulder suffered late last season, earned three pinfalls in four outings Wednesday to help pace the team.
Los Alamos has been solid all season in the middle weight classes, with Corey Geyer, Brian Geyer and Alyc Montoya all turning in good showings, along with 103-pounder Jodi Cull-Host, who earned a pair of pins.
But Los Alamos, which is lacking several weight classes, couldn’t make up for the deficits in its three losses.
