The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team will host Texas Tech Friday for the regular season opener in the newly renovated Pit at 7 p.m.
This will be the fourth consecutive year that the Lobos open the season at home. Friday’s game will be broadcast live on 610 AM The Sports Animal. Gametracker and video streaming will also be provided via GoLobos.com.
The Lobos continue playing at home throughout the month of November. New Mexico will host University of California-Irvine Nov. 15 and California on Nov. 20.
The Lobos will wrap up their homestand as they host the Holiday Inn Express – Midtown Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 26-27.
Rhode Island, Oklahoma State and San Francisco will all be playing in the tournament along with New Mexico.
UNM is 21-11 all-time in season openers and 14-6 when opening at home. During head coach Don Flanagan’s tenure, the Lobos are 12-3 in season openers and 8-1 when opening inside The Pit.
Friday’s game will be the 14th meeting between UNM and Texas Tech. The Red Raiders currently lead the series 11-2.
The last meeting between the two teams was on Dec. 5, 2009 in Lubbock, Texas, with Texas Tech winning that contest 65-55.
The Lobos only wins against the Raiders were a 74-65 victory in 2001 and a 63-54 win in 2008.
