When things are going well, things are going well.
Two-time defending women’s City champion Tami Martinson, who is in the lead after the first round of the 2011 City tournament, got a cherry on top of her round Saturday. Martinson hit the first ace of her career on the eighth hole, rolling a shot right over a bunker and straight into the cup.
It was a big day for Martinson, who holds a four-stroke lead heading into today’s final round of the City Championship, which is being played at Los Alamos Golf Course. Today’s round is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m.
Despite the big showing, posting an 81 and garnering the hole-in-one, three other players are still within striking distance of Martinson. Anna Swertfeger, Anita Dunmar and Ev Griggs are all within five strokes.
But Martison’s chances of a repeat title were helped immensely when she struck her 8-iron and rolled her tee shot in. Martinson got a big ovation as she went into the clubhouse following her round, in no small part because, as tradition dictates, golfers who hit holes-in-one must buy the clubhouse a round of drinks.
