THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM MDT SUNDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... GENERALLY 2 TO 5 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 7 INCHES ON THE HIGHEST PEAKS ABOVE 10000 FEET.

* TIMING... PERIODS OF LIGHT TO OCCASIONALLY MODERATE SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE MORNING... INCREASING IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY BY AFTERNOON AND THROUGH TONIGHT.

* WINDS... WIDESPREAD SIGNIFICANT WINDS ARE NOT EXPECTED.

* SNOW LEVELS... TEMPERATURES WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW AT ALL LOCATIONS.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... SNOW LEVELS WILL REACH 7000 TO 8000 FEET BY THE LATE AFTERNOON... DROPPING TO ALL AREAS BY THIS EVENING.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL PRIMARILY CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES.

A PERSISTENT UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM HAS MIGRATED TO THE SOUTHWEST JUST OUTSIDE OF NEW MEXICO. THIS FEATURE IS EXPECTED TO GAIN SOME STRENGTH AND MOISTURE THROUGH THE MORNING AS IT BEGINS TO TRACK BACK ACROSS THE HEART OF NEW MEXICO.

ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO FAVOR THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE WESTERN... SOUTH CENTRAL... CENTRAL... AND PORTIONS OF THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS TODAY AND TONIGHT WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE AMOUNTS. SOME LIGHT TO OCCASIONALLY MODERATE SNOW MAY WORK ITS WAY INTO SOME NEIGHBORING LOWER ELEVATION AREAS TONIGHT AS TEMPERATURES COOL. PRECIPITATION IS THEN EXPECTED TO END FROM WEST TO EAST THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.
