Winter Weather Advisory Through Noon Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued the following advisory for this area:

THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MDT SATURDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE QUITE VARIABLE... BUT GENERALLY ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE TO FOUR INCHES ARE EXPECTED ABOVE 8500 FEET.

* TIMING... OCCASIONAL LIGHT SNOW WILL LINGER TONIGHT... WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCUMULATION INCREASING LATE FRIDAY MORNING INTO FRIDAY NIGHT. SNOW LEVELS WILL RISE A LITTLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON... WITH ONLY THE HIGHER PEAKS PICKING UP ACCUMULATION. HOWEVER... ADDITIONAL SHOWERS FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY MORNING MAY LEAD TO ANOTHER COUPLE OF INCHES OF ACCUMULATION.

* WINDS... NO SUBSTANTIAL WIND IMPACTS ARE FORESEEN.

* SNOW LEVELS... SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE GENERALLY EXPECTED TO REMAIN AT 8000 FEET AND HIGHER. WHILE SOME SNOW IS EXPECTED AT LOWER ELEVATIONS... THE WARM GROUND CONDITIONS WILL NOT BE CONDUCIVE TO ACCUMULATION.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... SNOW WILL LIMIT VISIBILITY... AND COULD POSE TREACHEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ON SOME HIGH ELEVATION ROADS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MOTORISTS SHOULD BE ALERT TO CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND TAKE PRECAUTIONS IF TRAVEL IS NECESSARY.

TWO SIGNIFICANT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS WILL IMPACT NEW MEXICO THROUGH AT LEAST EARLY SATURDAY... BRINGING COLDER TEMPERATURES AND ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL TO THE HIGH TERRAIN OF NORTHERN AND WEST CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. AREAS OF LIGHT TO... AT TIMES... MODERATE SNOW WILL BRING ACCUMULATIONS OF SEVERAL INCHES ABOVE 8500 FEET BY SATURDAY MORNING WITH LESSER AMOUNTS BETWEEN 7000 AND 8500 FEET INTERRUPTED BY SOME MELTING POTENTIAL DURING THE DAY FRIDAY. SNOW WILL LIKELY BECOME LIGHTER AND LESS FREQUENT AFTER MIDNIGHT INTO DAYLIGHT HOURS OF FRIDAY MORNING. PRECIPITATION WILL DIMINISH BETWEEN LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND MIDDAY SATURDAY.
