The National Weather Service has issued the following weather advisory:

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MST TODAY...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MST TODAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... 1 TO 3 INCHES BELOW 7500 FEET AND 3 TO 6 INCHES ABOVE 7500 FEET. LOCALLY UP TO 8 INCHES ABOVE 9000 FEET ALONG THE WEST SLOPES OF THE SANGRE DE CRISTOS AND TUSAS MOUNTAINS.

* TIMING... SNOW WILL CONTINUE... HEAVY AT TIMES... UNTIL MID MORNING BEFORE GRADUALLY TAPERING OFF DURING THE LATE MORNING.

* WINDS... WESTERLY 10 TO 20 MPH BY SUNRISE. LOCALLY HIGHER ALONG THE HIGHER PEAKS OF THE SANGRE DE CRISTOS.

* SNOW LEVELS... LOWERING TO AROUND 7000 FEET BY MID MORNING.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... TRAVEL COULD BECOME DIFFICULT DUE TO WET SNOW AND SLUSHY CONDITIONS ALONG HIGHWAY 4 BETWEEN LA CUEVA TO LOS ALAMOS AND ALONG HIGHWAY 84 BETWEEN TIERRA AMARILLA TO THE COLORADO BORDER.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL PRIMARILY CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES.

A PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM ACCOMPANIED WITH A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL PROVIDE WINTRY WEATHER TO PORTIONS OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO THIS MORNING. SNOW LEVELS WILL BE FAIRLY HIGH THROUGH ABOUT SUNRISE BUT THEN LOWER SIGNIFICANTLY THEREAFTER AS COLD AIR PUSHES INTO NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO BEHIND A SURFACE COLD FRONT. THE MAIN SNOW ACCUMULATION IMPACTS WILL BE ABOVE 8000 FEET.
