A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MODERATE TO OCCASIONAL HEAVY SNOW REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MDT THIS EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... 1 TO 4 INCHES. GREATEST ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE ON ELEVATED OR GRASSY SURFACES.

* TIMING... SNOW MAY MIX WITH RAIN LATER TODAY. OTHERWISE... EXPECTED SNOW TO DECREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY THIS AFTERNOON.

* WINDS... NORTH 10 TO 15 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 25 MPH.

* SNOW LEVELS... SNOW LEVELS WILL RISE TO 7000 FEET LATER THIS MORNING AND TO 7500 FEET THIS AFTERNOON.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... DUE TO RECENT WARM CONDITIONS... MUCH OF THE SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL BE ON ELEVATED OR GRASSY SURFACES. HOWEVER... DUE TO HIGH SNOWFALL RATES... SOME ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE ON ROADWAYS WHICH MAY RESULT IN SLICK SPOTS... INCLUDING ALONG HIGHWAY 285 NORTH OF SANTA FE AND HIGHWAY 75 NEAR AND EAST OF EMBUDO.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL PRIMARILY CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES.

MODERATE SNOW WILL CONTINUE TODAY ACROSS THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MOUNTAINS... THE ADJACENT HIGHLANDS... UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY... ESTANCIA VALLEY AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF UNION COUNTY. SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES ACROSS THE SANGRE DE CRISTOS... RATON RIDGE... JOHNSON MESA AND NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS. AT LOWER ELEVATIONS... ACCUMULATIONS WILL FAVOR ELEVATED AND GRASSY SURFACES... HOWEVER... ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN... SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE OVER ROADWAYS. BETWEEN ONE AND TWO FEET OF SNOW IS LIKELY ACROSS THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS THROUGH THIS EVENING. ADDITIONALLY... STRONG WINDS OVER THE RATON RIDGE AND NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS WILL CREATE REDUCED VISIBILITIES IN BLOWING SNOW. THE UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WINTER CONDITIONS WILL EXIT THE STATE THIS EVENING.
