Winter Weather Advisory in effect through Tuesday afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued the following severe weather alert:

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MST THIS EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... AN INCH OR TWO EXPECTED BELOW 7500 FEET WITH 2 TO 3 INCHES AND LOCALLY UP TO 4 INCHES ABOVE 7500 FEET FAVORING THE WEST SLOPES THE JEMEZ/LOWER SAN JUANS AND SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS.

* TIMING... SNOW WILL DIMINISH LATE THIS MORNING OR EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.

* WINDS... NORTHWEST 10 TO 20 MPH. SOME HIGHER GUSTS LIKELY ON THE HIGHER PEAKS AND RIDGES.

* SNOW LEVELS... TEMPERATURES WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW AT ALL LEVELS AT LEAST THROUGH THE MORNING.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... MODERATE WINDS WILL CREATE OCCASIONAL BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW REDUCING VISIBILITIES BELOW 3 MILE AT TIMES. ROADS WILL BE SNOW COVERED AND ICY... ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS. HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED REST OF TODAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL PRIMARILY CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES. MODERATE WINDS WILL CREATE OCCASIONAL BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW REDUCING VISIBILITIES BELOW 1 MILE AT TIMES. ROADS WILL BECOME SNOW COVERED AND ICY... ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
