THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST TUESDAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES BELOW 7500 FEET AND 6 TO 12 INCHES ABOVE 7500 FEET. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE JEMEZ MOUNTAINS.

* TIMING... SNOW WILL CONTINUE HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH TONIGHT BEFORE TAPERING OFF TUESDAY MORNING.

* WINDS... NORTH WINDS 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

* SNOW LEVELS... ALL ELEVATIONS ACROSS THE WARNING AREA.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... HAZARDOUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY ALONG WITH REDUCED VISIBILITIES AT TIMES IN HEAVIER SNOW. TRAVEL MAY BECOME DIFFICULT... ESPECIALLY OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN AND PORTIONS OF HIGHWAY 550.

A POWERFUL UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE CENTER OVER SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO COMBINED COLD AIR PLUNGING SOUTH ACROSS THE STATE WILL CREATE DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS THROUGH TONIGHT.

STRONG NORTH WINDS COMBINED WITH HEAVY SNOW WILL PRODUCE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ACROSS NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO WITH WHITE OUT CONDITIONS EXPECTED... INCLUDING INTERSTATE 40 FROM CLINES CORNERS EAST TO THE TEXAS STATE LINE AND ALONG INTERSTATE 25 FROM LAS VEGAS NORTH TO THE COLORADO STATE LINE.

HEAVY SNOW WILL ALSO IMPACT THE WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS PARTICULARLY ALONG THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE... INCLUDING THE INTERSTATE 40 CORRIDOR BETWEEN GALLUP AND GRANTS. SNOW AND WIND WILL TAPER OFF TUESDAY MORNING TO EASE THESE DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS.
