THE WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST TUESDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES IN THE SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS. ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES IN THE CENTRAL AND WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS. ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS OF ONLY AROUND 1 INCH IN THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS.

* TIMING... ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT IN THE SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS... BUT ONLY THROUGH THIS EVENING IN THE SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS... AND ONLY THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON IN THE MOUNTAINS ALONG AND NORTH OF I-40. SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES IN THE MOUNTAINS SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 60 THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

* WINDS... EAST WINDS WILL CONTINUE AT 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH IN THE CENTRAL AND WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS THROUGH TODAY. ELSEWHERE WINDS WILL BE LIGHTER AND LESS GUSTY. THE GUSTY WINDS WILL DIMINISH THIS EVENING.

* SNOW LEVELS... TEMPERATURES WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW AT ALL LOCATIONS.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... HAZARDOUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED... ALONG WITH REDUCED VISIBILITIES AT TIMES IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. TRAVEL WILL BE DIFFICULT AND SOME ROADS MAY CLOSE... ESPECIALLY IN THE MOUNTAINS ALONG AND SOUTH OF I-40.

THE BAND OF HEAVIER SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO SHIFT SOUTH AND SOUTHEASTWARD AHEAD OF THE LOW... FAVORING SOCORRO... LINCOLN AND SOUTHWEST CHAVES COUNTIES FOR THE HEAVIEST ADDITIONAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS.

ELSEWHERE... LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE ACROSS MUCH OF THE STATE TODAY. ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL DIMINISH BY THIS EVENING ACROSS THE NORTHWEST HALF OF NEW MEXICO... BUT NOT UNTIL LATE TONIGHT FARTHER SOUTHEAST. IN ADDITION... BLOWING SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO BE A PROBLEM THROUGH TODAY ALONG THE I-40 CORRIDOR EAST OF GRANTS TO THE TEXAS BORDER AND SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE MIDDLE AND LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY... SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND MUCH OF THE EAST CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST PLAINS. WIND SPEEDS WILL WEAKEN THIS EVENING.

HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY REACH THE TEENS AND 20S ACROSS MOST OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO TODAY AND TUESDAY. BITTER COLD LOW TEMPERATURES ARE THEN EXPECTED TONIGHT AND TUESDAY NIGHT WITH READINGS RANGING FROM 19 BELOW TO 16 DEGREES ABOVE ZERO.
