A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MST THIS EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... 2 TO 4 INCHES AT ELEVATIONS BELOW 7000 FEET WITH 4 TO 8 INCHES OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS TO AROUND ONE FOOT ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS AND NEAR THE COLORADO BORDER.

* TIMING... SNOW WILL EXPAND EASTWARD THIS MORNING FROM THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND INTO NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. SNOW WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES BUT IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF OVER WEST CENTRAL NEW MEXICO THIS AFTERNOON... THEN DIMINISH THIS EVENING NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST AS THE STORM EXITS.

* WINDS... SOUTHWEST INCREASING TO 20 TO 35 MPH THIS MORNING. WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE NORTHWEST AS GUSTS TO 45 OR 50 MPH DEVELOP.

* SNOW LEVELS... TEMPERATURES WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW AT ALL LEVELS.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... STRONG AND GUSTY WINDS COMBINED WITH SNOWFALL WILL CREATE AREAS OF POOR VISIBILITIES IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. ROADS WILL BECOME SNOW PACKED AND ICY AND TRAVEL MAY BECOME DIFFICULT OR HAZARDOUS. SOME HIGHWAYS WHICH MAY BE AFFECTED INCLUDE U S 550 FROM CUBA TO CHAMA... AND U S 64 FROM TRES PIEDRAS TO TIERRA AMARILLA.
