A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM MST WEDNESDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... EXPECT TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES BELOW 7500 FEET AND 6 TO 10 INCHES ABOVE 7500 FEET. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS WILL BE POSSIBLE ON SOME WEST FACING SLOPES.

* TIMING... SNOWFALL WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES THIS EVENING. SNOW WILL DECREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY AFTER MIDNIGHT... THEN SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS WILL LINGER INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. PATCHY AND DENSE FOG WILL ALSO DEVELOP LATE TONIGHT AS THE SNOW DECREASES ALONG AND WEST OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE.

* WINDS... WEST AT 5 TO 15 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS ACROSS THE HIGHEST TERRAIN.

* SNOW LEVELS... SNOW LEVELS WILL DROP FROM AROUND 7000 FEET LATE THIS AFTERNOON TO THE LOWEST ELEVATIONS AFTER SUNSET.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... EXPECT HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS TO DEVELOP... ESPECIALLY OVER THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE BETWEEN GALLUP AND GRANTS... ALONG HIGHWAY 550 NEAR CUBA... AND OTHER ROADS NEAR CHAMA AND JEMEZ SPRINGS.

SNOW WILL SPREAD EASTWARD FROM FAR WESTERN NEW MEXICO INTO CENTRAL NEW MEXICO TONIGHT AS AS PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM CROSSES. WRAP AROUND MOISTURE WILL THEN CAUSE SNOW SHOWERS TO LINGER INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THE SNOW LEVEL WILL FALL FROM AROUND 7500 FEET TO THE LOWEST ELEVATIONS OVER THE COURSE OF THE EVENING. NEW MEXICOS JEMEZ AND WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS SHOULD RECEIVE THE HEAVIEST ACCUMULATIONS. GUSTY WINDS WILL BLOW THE SNOW TONIGHT... ESPECIALLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF I-40. WEST OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE SNOW WILL DECREASE DURING THE LATE NIGHT HOURS... THEN PATCHY FOG AND SNOW COVERED ROADS WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE TRAVEL HAZARDOUS.
