The New Mexico Wine Growers Association will be hosting the “Tastes of the Season Holiday Wine & Food Expo”, a new event to be inside the Star Center in Rio Rancho, on Nov. 9 and 10. Featuring holiday food sampling, seminars on how to pair local wines with your favorite holiday dishes, and a charity holiday tree auction, the “Tastes of the Season Holiday Wine & Food Expo” will take place from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
“Everybody is looking for ways to make the holidays special,” said event organizer Dawn Starostka. “This expo is a new way to explore what’s out there, in a nice, warm indoor setting with holiday music, seminars on wine and food, and tasty treats.” Starostka says that 11 New Mexico wineries will be on-hand, pouring samples of their wines, in addition to area caterers sampling tasty holiday fare.
“Tastes of the Season Holiday Wine & Food Expo” will feature regular food and wine pairing seminars, showcasing how to make holiday parties even more remarkable by pairing holiday desserts, appetizers and meals with the perfect wines.
In addition, several area charities are offering up fully decorated artificial holiday trees for auction, with proceeds benefitting each organization.
Trees will be offered from the Boys and Girls Club, New Mexico Autism Society, Girl Scouts of N.M. Trails, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Sandoval County Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Watermelon Mountain Ranch Animal Shelter and Dance Fund Raiser.
Admission to the “Tastes of the Season Holiday Wine & Food Expo” is $20 per adult, which includes a souvenir wine glass and wine tastings. Advance tickets are available at www.tastesoftheseasonwinefestival.com.
Under 21 are free with a parent or legal guardian, and all attendees must have a valid picture ID in accordance with state law. If sampling the wines, organizers encourage bringing a designated driver.
