.. WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM MDT THIS EVENING...

* LOCATION... ALL OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO... EXCEPT FOR THE PEAKS AND EASTERN SLOPES OF THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS AND ADJACENT NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS.

* WINDS... SUSTAINED FROM THE SOUTHWEST AT 25 TO 35 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS OF 45 TO 55 MPH.

* TIMING... WINDS WILL PEAK DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON... THEN GENERALLY DIMINISH AROUND SUNSET. LOCALIZED STRONG WINDS WILL PERSIST INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS TONIGHT ALONG THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN AND AREAS IMMEDIATELY EAST OF THE HIGHER TERRAIN.

* VISIBILITY... AREAS OF 3 TO 5 MILE VISIBILITIES WILL BE COMMON DUE TO BLOWING DUST. LOCALIZED AREAS MAY BE REDUCED TO 1 MILE AT TIMES IN DUST PRONE AREAS SUCH AS THE NORTHWEST PLATEAU AND FAR EASTERN PLAINS.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... STRONG CROSS WINDS WILL IMPACT TRAVELERS ON NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST ORIENTED ROADS SUCH AS U.S. HIGHWAYS 54... 64... AND 285. TRAVEL IMPACTS CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED FROM BLOWING DUST AND REDUCED VISIBILITY.

MOTORISTS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION WHILE TRAVELLING. SUDDEN GUSTS OF WIND MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. EXTRA ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO CROSS WINDS.

.WINDS ALOFT WILL CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN OVER NEW MEXICO THROUGH THE AFTERNOON WHILE ANOTHER AREA OF SURFACE LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS OVER THE NORTHEASTERN PART OF THE STATE. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE NORTHWEST THIRD OF NEW MEXICO AS WELL AS THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS AND NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS... TO INCLUDE THE INTERSTATE 25 CORRIDOR FROM NEAR GLORIETA TO THE COLORADO BORDER. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST AND REDUCED VISIBILITY ARE LIKELY.
