THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A WIND ADVISORY... WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM MDT THIS EVENING.

* LOCATION... THE SAN FRANCISCO RIVER VALLEY... THE JEMEZ MOUNTAINS... THE LOWER CHAMA RIVER VALLEY... AND THE UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY INCLUDING THE SANTA FE METRO AREA.

* WINDS... SOUTHWEST 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH.

* TIMING... WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN ACROSS THE AREA LATE THIS MORNING THEN PEAK DURING MID TO LATE AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL DIMINISH QUICKLY EARLY THIS EVENING.

* VISIBILITY... LOCALIZED REDUCTIONS DOWN TO 2 MILES WILL BE POSSIBLE IN DUST PRONE AREAS... SUCH AS OPEN FIELDS... MINING LOCATIONS... AND ONGOING CONSTRUCTION SITES.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... STRONG CROSS WINDS WILL IMPACT TRAVEL ON NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST ORIENTED ROADS... AND BLOWING DUST WILL CREATE SUDDEN CHANGES TO VISIBILITY.

MOTORISTS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION WHILE TRAVELLING. SUDDEN GUSTS OF WIND MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. EXTRA ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO CROSS WINDS.

A POWERFUL JET STREAM OVER NEW MEXICO TODAY WILL CONTINUE TO COMBINE WITH A DEEPENING SURFACE TROUGH ALONG THE FRONT RANGE OF THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES... PRODUCING STRONG AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING SOUTHWEST WINDS. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED FROM THE SOUTHWEST HIGH TERRAIN NORTH AND EAST ACROSS THE LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY... THE SANDIA AND MANZANO MOUNTAINS... THE SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND SURROUNDING HIGHLANDS... AS WELL AS THE EASTERN PLAINS. WIND GUSTS AS HIGH AS 65 MPH ARE EXPECTED THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON ALONG WITH WIDESPREAD BLOWING DUST. WINDS WILL DIMINISH QUICKLY ACROSS THIS AREA AFTER SUNSET.
