THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A WIND ADVISORY... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 9 PM MDT THIS EVENING. THE HIGH WIND WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* LOCATION... THIS INCLUDES THE NORTHWEST PLATEAU... CHUSKA MOUNTAINS AND NORTHWEST HIGHLANDS... WEST CENTRAL PLATEAU... JEMEZ MOUNTAINS... ALBUQUERQUE AND SANTA FE METRO AREAS AS WELL AS LOWER RIO GRANDE AND UPPER TULAROSA VALLEYS.

* WINDS... WEST AND NORTHWEST WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS AROUND 50 OR 55 MPH.

* TIMING... WIND SPEEDS WILL STRENGTHEN BY LATE MORNING... THEN PEAK IN STRENGTH DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS. WIND SPEEDS WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN THIS EVENING.

* VISIBILITY... MAY DROP BELOW 3 MILES... EXCEPT BELOW 1 MILE IN DUST PRONE LOCATIONS.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... STRONG CROSS WINDS WILL IMPACT NORTH TO SOUTH ORIENTED ROADWAYS... INCLUDING INTERSTATE 25... WHICH WILL MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT... ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.

MOTORISTS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION WHILE TRAVELLING. SUDDEN GUSTS OF WIND MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. EXTRA ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO CROSS WINDS.

STRONG WEST AND NORTHWEST WINDS WILL DEVELOP TODAY AS WINDS ALOFT INCREASE AND A STRONG SURFACE LOW SLIDES SOUTHEAST ACROSS WEST TEXAS. THE STRONG WINDS WILL BEGIN EARLY THIS MORNING. BY AFTERNOON... THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR WIND GUSTS TO REACH 60 MPH ACROSS THE WESTERN HIGH TERRAIN AS WELL AS ALONG AND EAST OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN ALONG AND SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40. GUSTS MAY REACH 70 MPH ALONG THE INTERSTATE 40 CORRIDOR FROM THE SANDIA MOUNTAINS TO TUCUMCARI. WINDY CONDITIONS WILL ALSO BE COMMON ACROSS NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO AS WELL AS THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN VALLEYS. WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH WILL BE COMMON IN THESE LOCATIONS. WIND SPEEDS WILL DIMINISH AFTER SUNSET.
